Our offroad / overlanding tours in 2026

(Clicken Sie hier für Deutsch)

The name of our company, Dreamscape Overland, simply captures the essence of the tours on which we’re taking you – overlanding through dreamscapes, discovering the most beautiful mountain ridges and peaks, sleeping on hidden wild campsites in enchanted forests, reaching them along trails which aren’t present in any of the maps, which has often nobody driven for years – except for us.

We share with you the pure joy of discovering desolate places (far outside of mobile range), which have lost almost all contact with the civilization that we live in, although that civilization maybe thrives only some 20 or 30 kilometres further. Even to our camping season opener tour we have given the name The Green Hideouts, because those are exactly the places that you will discover on it – the deepest secrets of a forgotten world overgrown by vegetation and abandoned by people. It is the result of 50 years of passionate exploration of the Balkans, which brought us a private database of tracks exceeding 200.000 km in overall length. No competitor can come anywhere close!

The feeling that is dominant on these travels is that of true freedom, unbound by rules and regulations, in a surrounding where the passage of time has stopped. Take a look where we’re planning to take you this year!

Spring in western Serbia
(April 2026, hotel accomodation)

We start with our traditional spring season opener tour, which is a tour featuring first class hotel accomodation.

Zlatar and Zlatibor mountains, Stopića cave and many more points of interest will fill every day with constant revelations!

If you’re a fan of hotel tours, this is the ideal season opener for you!

Ancient Trails
(May/June 2026, camping tour)

This tour has quickly evolved into a favourite among our friends. Spanning a vast mountainous area from northwestern, through central, to southwestern Serbia, it covers very diverse landscape and promises a dynamic ride, with several truly remarkable wild campsites – from deep forest, to breathaking views of mountains in a circle of a few hundred kilometres. It also offers a diverse driving experience, from seriously muddy forest trails, to rocky highland plateau passages. One of the participants who took four of our tours in 2024 stated that this was the tour which has impressed him most – and knowing which bestsellers he has chosen, that statement is really a serious compliment to this tour! Take a look at the videos from 2024 and 2023 (2025 video soon available)…

Montenegro Highlands
(July 2026, camping tour)

A small country in the midst of the rugged Dinaric mountains, Montenegro offers one of the most impressive experiences in the Balkans when it comes to breathtaking, rocky vistas, whichever direction you turn your head. It features the larges highland plateau in Europe, Sinjajevina, which offers an unreal journey of about 100 km over grassy plains. It has an average altitude od 1700 m. Montenegro also features numerous glacier lakes, by which we often setup our wilderness camps. It is in average our highest tour, as most of our camps are at altitudes between 1300 and 1800 m. This makes it pleasently cool at nights even during the hottest summer months.

The tour itinerary has been carved to perfection over a period of 10 years, and it leaves nothing of the most attractive Montenegrian wilderness out. We could say it is the essence of Montenegro. And it is also one of our easiest tours in the technical aspect (although quite rocky in places), so it is a tour to recommend if you’re an absolute beginner in offroading. Take a look at the video below to get a feeling of what Montenegro has to offer you.

  • Visiting 10 fabulous lakes, some being at altitudes above 2400 m, while others, surrounded by beautiful pinetree forests, resemble some distant, exotic landscapes (like British Columbia)
  • All of the most spectacular scenic viewpoints of the Rhodopean mountains, some with a vertical drop of 1000 m below the viewing platform
  • Traversing the largest highland plateau in the Balkans, travelling through an enchanting maze of pinetree forest trails for over 150 km without dropping below 1500 m of altitude
  • Visiting the biggest bear sanctuary in the Balkans
  • Two impressive, although diverse caves
  • Three natural stone arches at the altitude of almost 1500 m

Secret Carpathians
(August 2026, camping tour)

This is probably the most famous of our tours, which has become a trademark for Dreamscape Overland (formerly Rustika Expeditions). Taking you all along the southernmost part of the Carpathian mountains in Serbia, it starts from Kučaj, the biggest uninhabited area in Serbia, and progresses towards the higher mountains further south, reaching a high point of 2169 on Midžor, the highest peak of Serbia.

It’s an immersive experience, taking you from deep forests to narrow tracks following highland ridges, some impressive scenic viewpoints on cliffs, bringing you from one mountain lake to another, and letting you camp in some of the most beautiful mountain river valleys in Serbia. However, it’s not for absolute beginners – it does require at least some offroad driving experience, because we will occasionally reach some rocky sections which require skilled and concentrated driving.

Balkan Long Trail
(August/September 2026, camping tour)

This tour in Bulgaria which we’ve started in 2024 has become an instant success. The 2024 premiere was booked out already in January! And since the 2025 edition we have extended it from 10 to 12 days in order to cover the entire mountain range more decently and to arrive at the Black Sea coast with no rush.

The tour simply follows the entire mountain range of the epic Balkan mountain. It starts at the border with Serbia, going all the way to the Black Sea, where this 1000 km long mountain range ends. It features all elevation levels, from 0 m, to the highest peak of the Balkan mountains, Botev (2376 m). Botev requires a special permit from the national park management, which we have. It also features some extremely attractive and moderately demanding ridge trails, like the ascent to Kom (2016 m).

As the videos from the 2024 and 2025 tours have not been produced yet (we hope to have them ready in spring 2026), you can watch this short clip of the ascent to Kom.

The tour programme and booking form, you can find here.

Trails of Gods
(September 2026, camping)

In 2025 this tour was not only booked out, but we had a second edition, for a private group too. It’s not a wonder at all, knowing what incredible scenery the Pindos mountains in Greece are offering!

This tour takes you along the entire spine of the Pindos mountains, from the southern coast, all the way north, to the Albanian border. These mountains are also called the Greek Alps. because their rugged rocky scenery very much resembles the western Alps. But unlike this popular overlanding destination, there’s almost no traffic at all, just you and the magnificent 2000+ meter peaks! You will also camp in the riverbeds, experiencing canyons such as Portitsa (with it’s well known bridge at the entrance to the canyon. You will also see baeautiful mountain lakes, ancient churches and other cultural artifacts hidden high in the mountains. This proves that Greece is much, much more than only the mediterranean seaside. Let this magnificent video tell you the rest of the story about Trails of Gods!

Secret Carpathians – Indian Summer
(October 2026, hotel accomodation)

This is the Hotel version of our famous Secret Carpathians tour. It is a chance for those who aren’t campers to experience the incredible scenery of the Carpathian mountains of Serbia. We make this tour at the time of year with richest colours of nature. During 6 days it takes you from the highest peaks of Serbia on Stara planina (including the highest peak Midžor at 2169 m of altitude), to the lower, but not less interesting, heavily forested wilderness areas of the Kučaj mountains. It introduces some truly magnificent monuments of nature such as Lazar’s canyon, or the Prskalo waterfall.

Accomodation during the tour is really first class. It features 3 and 4-star hotels, most of them having thermal water pools, saunas and other spa options.

The trail ratings in this tour are moderate, but you should be ready for some quite intense rocky sections. Also a few muddy passages with deep ruts, and quite some scratching in areas of dense vegetation. Take a look in the Indian Summer 2022 video what this tour looks like.

Montenegro Beyond Overlanding
(on demand tour, camping/bungalows)

The first of our on demand tours, aimed at customers with some specific preferences (in this case combining driving and some substantial hiking). It extends our standard Montenegro Highlands programme with several days of some substantial hiking. It enables you to enjoy some remarkable rocky single-trails and reach some incredible places in the mountains of Montenegro, that you can’t reach only by driving. For example, some of the most famous peaks of the Durmitor, Prokletije and Komovi national parks.

The tour is a combination of wildcamping, camping in official camps, and sleeping in bungalows. Take a look at the full beauty of Montenegrian landscape in the video below!

Here you can find more details about this tour (as well as the booking form). If you have a group of at least 3 vehicles (4-6 people), we will provide a custom date and guidance for your group.

Serbian Tough Tracks
(on demand tour, hotel accomodation)

As this is a tour intended exclusively for the extreme offroading adrenaline junkies, we added it to the list of our on demand tours, organized for groups of 3 or more vehicles at any desired dates (for best tough experiences we recommend March to June, or November/December). We have chosen some of the most challenging tracks in the muddy hell of Homolje and Kučaj mountains. It lets our visitors bring their cars, as well as themselves, to the technical limit.

There will be a 3 km long riverbed, crossing a major river, and reaching some hard to reach mountain peaks. Also, it features some extremely steep ascents and descents, where you should be ready to use your winches. So you could say that this tour takes you beyond where we normally take our overlanding groups. Of course, after a hard day of extreme offroading, you will want to relax in a first class hotel. They offer good food, pools and sauna!
