Offroading in Romania – beginning of the end?

Written by
Aleksandar Veljković

The Romanian Carpathians have been a European top destination for offroad and overland touring in the past decade, especially for tourists from central and eastern Europe. The beauty and wilderness of those mountains became so famous, that merely mentioning the magic word “Carpathians” or “Romania” was the selling point, no need to do any further marketing. On top of the beautiful nature and desolation, it offered the people everything that they didn’t have elsewere in the EU countries anymore, and more than anything, it was a possibility for a relaxed exploration and wild camping virtually anywhere outside of the national parks. However, very few people were aware that a law practically forbidding public traffic on forest roads and in the wild had been passed in Romania all the way back in 2007. And nobody knew that simply because Romanian forest authorities never really cared to implement that law. But it looks as if those things are going to change. It’s only a question of time…

Discovering wild Balkans

Written by:

When mountains in the central part of the Balkans start having freezing temperatures at night in the autumn, it’s time to head south, to the warm, meditteranean part of the peninsula. That is exactly what we do every year in the Balkans Wild Tracks tour. This is the adventure we’ve experienced between October 20th and November 5th in Greece, Albania, Macedonia and Serbia.

Every season we explore and discover new ones, so even the tours that seem to be the same in our calendar are never the same as they were last year – every time we make them we try to achieve a higher level of traveller’s bliss, always adding to them something new and different 😎 Take a look at where and how we’ll be taking you in 2017… Continue reading Where are we taking you in 2017?

New 2016 videos on-line

Yes, it’s the video making season again! The 2 TB of new video material recorded on tours duriung this year is slowly finding it’s way to the editing software, so they’re coming, one by one. Lets see what we have released lately…

We’ve started with the longest standing material, the one from our last winter tour, in an effort to enable the candidates for the 2017 winter tour to see what they can expect.

Homolje Gold Rush

Early springtime mud fun in the mystical eastern Serbia

The Homolje mountains are a place where green pastures and rich forests on steep slopes were home for shepperds for centuries. And the hidden valleys, like a maze well tucked away from civilization, inspired people to resort to magic and sourcery, so it’s full of legends. But one of the strongest local traditions is that of gold panning in the rivers! So the locals will teach us that art, in the midst of touring caves of breathtaking beauty (also known as places of hidden gold), and conquering demanding offroad trails that surpass everything that you can expect in those, seemingly tame and pastoral hills. Embark on a unique early springtime 4×4 adventure!

See the full tour announcement (and registration form) on the Rustika Travel site.

Serbian Snow Adventure

Serbia, not Siberia… But there’s not much difference!

When the wind starts howling, wave after wave of snow blizzards encase the Kučaj mountains in white, everyone flees them as fast as possible, knowing that they can be stranded there until springtime. Everyone, except us. That is when we pack up our winter recovery gear and engage on the snowdrift surfing tour through that vast kingdom of the wolves… And when we conquer Kučaj winterscapes, it’s time to move over to western Serbia, for a whole different flavour of snow adventure! And inbetween our daily ice games, we’ll bask in the warm thermal pools and enjoy the spicy Serbian cuisine. There’s no better way to experience the Balkan winter!

2016 – an intense season

Yes, we haven’t found time to mention any of our tours since Homolje Gold Rush this past spring – and there’s been some… 12 or 13 of them inbetween, if we count both the official and unofficial ones. We’ve been in Serbia (all over), Romania and Montenegro, and that won’t be the end of the list. So let’s make just a quick run through the places we’ve visited in 2016. But first…

The video from the Serbian Snow Adventure we owe you. Almost 8 months delayed, but better late than never 🙂 With a bit of luck, the rest of the video material from this season will be processed as the new winter approaches. So here it is, enjoy! 😎

Huh, that was really intense, wasn’t it? And where have we been doing during the spring and summer season?

New Serbianoutdoor 4×4 videos

We have a hard time producing all the video material that we record on our travels – some of it hasn’t seen the light of YouTube for more than a few years now. But we’re certainly trying to bring to you what we feel would be interesting. So two of our new videos are online – the one bringing to you the unspoiled beauty of Montenegro highlands

as well as the one depicting all the fun that western Serbia can bring you in a 4×4 tour (recorded during the “No Jeep No Fun” team tour in June 2015)

Enjoy, and join us next time, to live our dreams together!

Tisnica – our secret oasis

Written by

What is owning a 4×4 vehicle all about? Offroad racing? Certainly not (at least not for us). The purpose of having an offroader is, in my opinion, in being able to reach some remote, hardly accessible places deep in the wild, where you’re certain that nobody would bother you in a million years, and enjoy them with your friends. And the confluence of Perast and Tisnica rivers at the border of Kučaj and Homolje mountains in eastern Serbia, is one of such places. A real heaven on earth, a hideout for those who know how to get there.
